The owners of DVS Manufacturing Inc. and Louet North America are a husband and wife team that sell their products all over the world. Dave and Pam Van Stralen’s business is located in the Leeds Grenville area of eastern Ontario. DVS is perhaps best-known for its SquareTM ergonomic knitting needles and crochet hooks.
The original family business, Louet North America, was started by Dave’s late mother, Trudy. The company specialized in:
Trudy’s original knitting patterns are still sold today. In 2016 the family bought out Kollage Yarns, which included all of its needle-making equipment. Now the wool and weaving company has the perfect complement: knitting needles and crochet hooks.
In true Van Stralen form, their son Brett brought his expertise to the family business in order to put all the needle and hook manufacturing equipment to good use. With a background in robotics, he was integral to the creation and setup of their second company: DVS Manufacturing Inc.
DVS’s products are sold in 150 independent craft stores right now, but they plan to sell to 500 stores within the next three years. With years of business experience and a long line of experts in their niche, DVS is an example of the growth in manufacturing within eastern Ontario.
